Flatfoot in Hong Kong - Bud Spencer (1975) - Macpherson Playground, Mongkok

At one point the heroes go to a sumo wrestling fight (in Hong Kong!!?) before getting shot at and then old flatfoot storms out of the arena and pops out of Macpherson playground onto Nelson Street. Things around here have changed a lot but look at the background and you can still see one of the old buildings there.

Here are the modern day views from Streetview.

  1. I think sumo fight was shot in Italy. If you pay attention, the tatamis is placed into a basketball court designed as a Sumo fight place.

I don't think the producers take the audience as stupid, at that time, in places like Italy or Spain, many people thought China & Japan habits were the same...

  2. It's funny, it sounds like a cliche but when I told some of my ex-colleagues in the UK that I was moving to HK, well one of them did say "that's great, I've never been to Japan". Made me giggle a bit but I guess it's a more common misconception than I realised!

  3. You can tell it!!...but I think it is the same everyplace. Ask an Asian teenager to locate in a map certain european countries & you will feel surprised...not to mention if you ask to a North American teenager where Spain is...They think it is locate somewhere in Mexico!!!
